The house of the monks

Our guest house was part of the Saint Mexme Abbey . This abbey was build by a disciple of Saint Martin in the Xth century, founded there between 980 and 1007 by Archambaud Sully, Archbishop of Tours. In this place lived monks in the 12th century; they reported directly to Rome, but was subject to the authority of the Archbishop of Tours from 1696.

Our house, Gothic style, restored several times, housed one of the monks. The balcony of the front has a beautiful wrought iron balconies Louis XV style entirely restored. The former abbey housed several schools from 1825 to 1980.

In the twentieth century guest house was occupied by among other umbrella factory who worked for large Parisian luxury brands. A tower and beautiful cellars complete the building and gives its charm to this guest house in the heart of the city.

"Sleep in the head monk's house”
"This lovely bed and breakfast (2 rooms) is the restored home of the monk in charge of a 1400's monastery. Behind a door in a garden wall on a narrow street is a lovely garden and a very nicely restored historic home. After climbing the wide stairs up a turret, our room turned out to be a suite. The large sitting area, semi-separate bedroom and bathroom were very spacious. Parking is a bit interesting in the narrow street, but there were some spaces by the church across the way. Breakfast was simple but nicely presented in a bright room looking out to the garden. The location is perfect for walking to through the historic town centre and to restaurants. Our hosts were friendly and helpful."
